PRESS RELEASE N. 31
Guyana – Venezuela Joint Commission Meeting in Brasilia
On the morning of January 25th, the Itamaraty Palace will host a meeting of the Joint Commission of Foreign Ministers and Technicians of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The commission was established by the Argyle Declaration for Dialogue and Peace between Guyana and Venezuela, adopted on December 14 last year in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
In Brasília, the dialogue will be attended by the governments of Brazil, through Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (exercising the presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States - CELAC), and Dominica (exercising the presidency of the Caribbean Community - CARICOM), acting as the main interlocutors in the process.
Representatives of the Secretary-General of CARICOM, in support of the CARICOM presidency, and the Secretary-General of the United Nations, as an observer, will also participate in the meeting.
The Brazilian Government values the commitment of Guyana and Venezuela to the ongoing dialogue process, facilitated by regional actors and mechanisms. It also highlights the spirit of integration that drives the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean with a view to consolidating the region as a zone of peace, cooperation and solidarity.
