PRESS RELESASE NO. 579
Floods in Malaysia and Thailand
The Brazilian government expresses profound sorrow over the loss of dozens of lives, injuries, and the displacement of thousands caused by the recent floods that have devastated Thailand and Malaysia in recent days.
The disaster occurs less than two months after the passage of Typhoon Yagi, which caused severe damage across Southeast Asia. Brazil stands in solidarity with the governments of Thailand and Malaysia and calls on all countries to intensify their efforts and to adapt to the impacts of climate change, in response to the increasing frequency of extreme natural events.
The Embassies of Brazil in Bangkok and in Kuala Lumpur continue to closely monitor the developments of the climate disaster. Until now, there is no record of Brazilians among the victims.
