The First Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Cotton-4 + Togo Project will be held next week at the Itamaraty Palace.
On April 25, the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sérgio Danese, will host the official opening ceremony with the presence of Ambassador João Almiro, Director of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC); Ambassadors from African countries working in partnership with Brazil, the President of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Cooperation (EMBRAPA), Mauricio Lopes, the Chief Executive of the Brazilian Cotton Institute (IBA), Haroldo da Cunha ,and the UN Resident Coordinator in Brazil, Niky Fabiancic. On the same day, a round table will be held to discuss south-south cooperation, the challenges of measuring results obtained so far, the creation of indexes and an assessment of the project.
Since 2009, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Brazilian Cooperation Agency, has carried out, in collaboration with EMBRAPA, the project Cotton-4, which aims to develop the cotton sector in Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali. Togo has recently joined the project.
The project C-4+Togo comprises technology exchange and application of technologies in cotton genetic improvement, soil cultivation and pest management. The main outcomes of the project include the establishment of the Cotton-4 Research Center in Mali, and the increased cotton productivity of participant countries, which has quadrupled in experimental crops.
The official opening of the First Meeting of the Cotton-4+Togo Project Steering Committee will be open to the press. Media professionals interested in covering the event must send to credenciamento@itamaraty.gov.br , no later than noon on April 25, their full name, identity card number and name of media company. They are also required to arrive at the side entrance of the Itamaraty Palace at least 15 minutes prior to the event.
