Election of Brazilian Alexandre Pupo Quintino to the General Secretariat of the Ibero-American Youth Organization
Brazilian sociologist Alexandre Pupo Quintino was elected by consensus today, Dec. 13th, to the General Secretariat of the Ibero-American Youth Organization (OIJ), for the 2025-2030 term. The election took place in Madrid, during the 23rd Conference of Youth Ministers and Officials. This is the first time that a Brazilian has been elected to the position.
At 31 years old, Alexandre Pupo Quintino has a career in youth movements. He holds a degree in law and social sciences and a master in sociology from the University of São Paulo. He currently serves as advisor at the the Special Advisory Office of the President of the Republic.
The OIJ, headquartered in Madrid, Spain, is an international organization established within the Ibero-American space to promote cooperation in youth matters between governments, civil society and the private sector. It is the only international organization specifically focused on youth and the inclusion of the topic in government agendas, particularly through the Ibero-American Youth Pact.
The election of Alexandre Pupo Quintino confirms Brazil's engagement with the Organization of Ibero-American States and reaffirms the Brazilian government's commitment to promoting the growing participation of young people in decision-making forums, as a way of contributing to the development of policies aimed at guaranteeing the future of new generations.
