The Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration – Marrakech, 10-11 December 2018
Foreign Minister Aloysio Nunes Ferreira will lead the Brazilian delegation at the Intergovernmental Conference to Adopt the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, to be held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Dec. 10-11. The Conference is organized by the Government of Morocco with the support of the United Nations.
The Global Compact for Migration is the most comprehensive cooperation framework ever established for the global governance of international migration flows. It sets out governmental standards at the national, bilateral, regional and multilateral levels, and offers guidelines for international bodies, such as the International Organization for Migration. The agreement also addresses the protection of human rights of all migrants, regardless of their migration status, and facilitates better coordination between countries in the combat of international human trafficking and exploitation of migrants in vulnerable situations, including women and children.
The Global Compact for Migration will be an important instrument for guaranteeing fair treatment of more than three million Brazilians living abroad. In addition to the adoption of the Global Compact by governments, the Marrakech Conference aims to contribute, with proposals and initiatives, to the effective fulfilment of the commitments agreed upon by its particpants.
