PRESS RELEASE NO. 138
Campo Grande to host COP15 of the Convention on Migratory Species – Joint MRE/MMA Press Release
The city of Campo Grande, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, will host the 15th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP15) of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS). The event will take place from March 23 to 29, 2026.
The announcement was made today during the 56th Meeting of the CMS Standing Committee in Bonn. This will be the first CMS COP held in Latin America since 2014.
The decision to hold COP15 of the CMS in Campo Grande reflects the priority given by the Brazilian government to the conservation of the Pantanal, one of the largest continuous wetland areas in the world and a biome recognized for its rich biodiversity.
Hosting the conference in Brazil also reinforces the country’s commitment to multilateralism and the advancement of the international environmental agenda, with a focus on sustainable development.
The CMS aims to conserve and manage terrestrial, aquatic, and aerial migratory species by promoting international cooperation, protecting critical habitats, fostering research, raising public awareness, and integrating conservation with sustainable development.
The CMS has been in force since 1983 and has 133 State Parties. Brazil deposited its instrument of ratification of the Convention in 2015.
