Press Release n. 173
Brazil's G20 presidency
Brazil will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, 2023, for a period of one year. Established in its current format in 2008, the G20 has since consolidated itself as the main global forum for dialogue and coordination on economic, social, development, and international cooperation issues.
This will be the first occasion on which Brazil will chair the G20 in its current format. This is an unprecedented process for the country and a unique opportunity for Brazil to present its attributes and credentials and project public policy priorities and external relations in the group's areas of activity.
The G20 currently consists of 21 working groups, distributed in two tracks – one coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, with 13 working groups; another, by the Ministry of Finance, with 8 working groups – in addition to 11 engagement groups with civil society.
The schedule of the G20 presidency will include over a hundred official meetings throughout the national territory, including the leaders' summit, approximately 20 ministerial meetings, more than 50 meetings of senior officials, as well as dozens of side events.
The G20 Summit during the Brazilian presidency is scheduled to take place in the city of Rio de Janeiro on November 18 and 19, 2024.
