Election of Luciana Gonçalves de Carvalho to the Evaluation Body of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage
Brazilian professor Luciana Gonçalves de Carvalho was elected today, December 6, to the Evaluation Body of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage for a four-year term. The election took place during the 19th Session of the Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Asunción, Paraguay.
A PhD in Anthropology and professor at the Federal University of Western Pará (UFOPA), Luciana Gonçalves de Carvalho has an extensive academic and professional experience in developing public policies for the protection of intangible heritage at national and multilateral levels. She has joined a UNESCO group of experts to discuss the relationship between intangible heritage and climate action, as well as a group to exchange views on the List of Good Practices of the Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage.
The election of professor Luciana Gonçalves de Carvalho to the Evaluation Body underscores the importance Brazil gives to safeguarding intangible heritage and the country's interest in fostering synergies between traditional techniques and knowledge, sustainable development and human rights, in order to encourage a balanced and representative view of the Convention.
