PRESS RELEASE N. 158
Brazil is elected to INTERPOL
The Brazilian government welcomes the election of Federal Police commissioner Valdecy de Urquiza e Silva Junior to the post of Vice-President for the Americas of the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) Executive Committee, for the 2022-2024 term. The election has been held today among INTERPOL members during the 89th General Assembly of the Organization, in Istambul, Turkey.
The election of commissioner Urquiza is the result of hard work carried out in coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, and the Federal Police. The Brazilian delegation to the meeting, headed by the Federal Police Director General, commissioner Paulo Maiurino, included Brazilian diplomats and federal police officers.
The result demonstrates the recognition of Brazil’s active role in fighting transnational organized crime.

He also has considerable professional experience working with international police organizations, inclduing EUROPOL, AMERIPOL and INTERPOL’s General Secretariat, where he served, for four years, as head of the Vulnerable Communities Unit.
INTERPOL, which has headquarters in the French city of Lyon, is the world’s largest police organization, with representatives from 195 countries. The Organization became operational in 1956 and is responsible for enabling the sharing of and access to police and intelligence data, offering technical and operational support to its members.
