Appointment of Brazilian Lieutenant General as Force Commander for the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO)

The Brazilian government welcomed with satisfaction the news of the appointment, on April 8, of Lieutenant General Marcos de Sá Affonso da Costa as Force Commander for United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO).

The appointment of one more Brazilian military officer to MONUSCO's military command represents the recognition of the country's historic contribution to the United Nations peacekeeping operations. Lieutenant General Affonso da Costa succeeds General Ricardo Augusto Ferreira Costa Neves, who completed his tour of duty in the military command of MONUSCO on March 31.
