PRESS RELEASE NO. 573
Agreement on a ceasefire in Lebanon
The Brazilian government has been pleased to learn of the announcement of a ceasefire in Lebanon.
Brazil urges all parties involved to respect the terms of the agreement and to guarantee the permanent cessation of hostilities and the return of internally displaced people to their homes. It also reaffirms its commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon, recalling the urgent need to comply with Resolution 1701 (2006) of the United Nations Security Council, so that peace and stability can be reestablished along the ‘Blue Line’, which divides Lebanon from Israel and the Golan Heights.
During the conflict, between October 5 and November 26, 2024, the Federal Government's ‘Raízes do Cedro’ operation repatriated, in 13 Brazilian Air Force flights, 2662 people, including Brazilian nationals and their close relatives, resulting in the largest repatriation operation in FAB flights. When preparing passenger lists, priority was given to the elderly, children, pregnant women, people with disabilities and the homeless.
The Brazilian government reaffirms its call for an immediate, permanent and comprehensive ceasefire also in the Gaza Strip, which allows the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid and the release of all hostages.
