12th Brazil-Portugal Summit – Brasilia, November 1, 2016
President Michel Temer will receive, in Brasilia, on November 1, the Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio Costa, on the occasion of the 12th Brazil-Portugal Summit, a regular dialogue mechanism between the Heads of Government of both countries, in place since 1991.
During the first meeting, themes of the bilateral agenda, with highlights to the areas of trade and investments; science, technology and innovation, as well as the promotion of the Portuguese language will be discussed.
The two leaders will also review themes of the regional and multilateral agendas, especially the negotiations of the Association Agreement between Mercosur and the European Union and the recent election of António Guterres to the post of Secretary General of the United Nations.
Brazil and Portugal keep a significant partnership in the political, economic and commercial fields. About 600 Portuguese or Portuguese-owned companies operate in Brazil. The volume of bilateral trade reached USD$1.6 billion in 2015. Brazilian exports totaled USDS822 million, and imports, USD$ 810 million.
