Ambassador Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes served at the Embassy of Brazil in Caracas (1994-1997), at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN in New York (2000-2004), and at the Embassy of Brazil in Santiago (2004-2007). Positions held while abroad included: Vice-Consul and Deputy Consul, at the Brazilian Consulate in Vancouver (1991-1994); Chargée d’Affaires, at the Brazilian Embassy in Wellington (2008-2009); Deputy Permanent Representative (2018-2020) and Chargée d’affaires a.i. (2021-2022), at the Permanent Mission of Brazil to the UN, in Geneva, and Ambassador, at the Embassy of Brazil in Stockholm (2022-2023).
In Brazil, she worked at the Administration Department (1987-1990) and at the Special Division for the Environment (1990-1991). She has also served as Deputy Head of the Europe-II Division (1997-1999), Political Affairs Assistant at the Secretary General Office (1999-2000), Head of the International Peace and Security Division (2015-2016), and Director of the International Organizations Department (2016-2018). In April 2023, she took office as Secretary for Europe and North America.
