Integration Project of the São Francisco River
The São Francisco River Integration Project will provide water to 12 million people in the states of Pernambuco, Paraíba, Ceará, and Rio Grande do Norte. A total of 390 municipalities will benefit.
The water project consists of two water transfer axes: the Northern axis, with a length of 260 kilometers, and the Eastern axis, with a length of 217 kilometers. The structures capture water from the São Francisco River in the interior of Pernambuco to supply pipelines and branches that will ensure the flow of water in rivers and existing reservoirs in the region.
The two axes encompass the construction of 13 aqueducts, nine pumping stations, 27 reservoirs, nine 230-kilowatt substations, 270 kilometers of high-voltage transmission lines, and four tunnels. In addition to the two main axes (north and east), the concession also includes the branches (interstate) of Apodi and Piancó.
Approximately R$14 billion have been invested in the project so far. The structuring of the studies is the responsibility of BNDES, including the hiring of specialized technical services necessary for the project's modeling. The chosen modality is administrative concession, with a 20-year term, subject to review until the completion of the ongoing studies.
Currently, the forecast for publishing the bidding documents is in 2Q/25, with the auction scheduled for 3Q/25.
