In order to strengthen the planning and management of investments in water infrastructure, it is the responsibility of the National Secretariat for Water Security to lead the process of formulating, revising, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the National Water Security Policy, the National Water Resources Policy, and their instruments, including the National Water Resources Plan.
The objective of these actions is to ensure water supply, providing better health and comfort for the population, creating jobs, increasing income for the population, and contributing to the reduction of regional inequalities. The MDR also works on coordinating and supporting the revitalization of river basins and implementing actions to improve access to water through environmentally sustainable technologies.

The National Water Resources Plan
The National Water Resources Plan (PNRH) is the guiding document for implementing the National Water Resources Policy and the operation of the National Water Resources Management System (SINGREH), composed of institutions at the federal level, states, the Federal District, and river basins. It is a strategic instrument for coordinating actions at the three levels of water resources management.
