Third International Symposium
Science with the SOAR Telescope
Join us to discuss the science with SOAR Telescope from present day science programs to preparing for the next decade instruments and science operations.
May 13-15, 2025
Simultaneously at
INPE, São José dos Campos, SP, Brazil
Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, USA
(with real time transmission and connection between both sites)
The deadline for registration is March 31 2025
After 20 years of regular scientific operations, the SOAR telescope has established itself as a leading optical/near-infrared observatory for the Brazilian, US and Chilean communities. SOAR is not only a facility that enables astronomical observations, but it also serves as a training platform as well as a development laboratory for building state-of-the-art instruments.
The Third International Symposium “Science with the SOAR Telescope will be simultaneously hosted by INPE (Brazil) and MSU (Michigan, USA). For in-person participation. The talks and plenary discussions will be transmitted in real time between both sites allowing attendees from Brazil and USA to interact and have access to all the talks and discussions. Internet transmission of the talks outside the two venues (no interaction) is being evaluated but not yet granted. Come and join us in person to take part in the discussion thematic groups!
The Symposium will bring together the SOAR user community to share the results of their scientific programs, showcase the state of the art in each research area represented, facilitate knowledge and experience exchange regarding the telescope's operation, its instruments, and discuss updates in data reduction and processing as well .
The Symposium will furthermore be an opportunity to discuss the scientific direction of SOAR in the next decade, to propose instruments needed to support this scientific future, consider strategies for increasing the telescope's scientific productivity and, together build a roadmap for the development of capabilities that will take SOAR into the next decade.
