Trail takes visitors along the waterways of the Botanical Garden on April 26
On April 26, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden is promoting the free guided trail “The waters of the Botanical Garden”, at 10am. This activity, initially scheduled to commemorate World Water Day in March, was postponed to the new date due to rain.
The trail is also part of the commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the management of Friar Leandro do Sacramento (1778-1829), the first botanical director of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. He made important changes to the arboretum and was responsible, among other things, for the water system that is still in operation at the Garden today.
The public will be able to see the buildings built during Friar Leandro's time for the cultivation of aquatic plants, such as the lakes and waterfalls, and the monuments full of stories that make up the water system throughout the Garden. During the activity, led by the institution's Environmental Education Service and Green Area Conservation Coordination teams, visitors will also be able to contemplate the native vegetation and local fauna of the Atlantic Forest.
The meeting point is the Visitor Center and there is no need to register.
The activity is free of charge, with only an entrance fee for the arboretum.
