The First International Meeting on Biodiversity and Conservation without Borders begins on Monday (27) at ENBT
The First International Meeting on Biodiversity and Conservation without Borders, promoted by the National School of Tropical Botany (ENBT), will begin on Monday (May 27). The event will take place in person and will be broadcast live on the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden's YouTube channel, and will last until next Thursday (30). The opening ceremony will take place at 9 a.m., with a talk by the president of the JBRJ, Sergio Besserman Vianna. The director of Scientific Research at the JBRJ, Leonardo Tavares Salgado, and the director of the ENBT, Marinez Ferreira de Siqueira, will also take part.
The event will reflect on the importance of internationalization in botanical research and related areas. It also aims to help postgraduate students and researchers learn about opportunities, challenges and strategies for international collaboration. Lectures by experts, researchers and professionals will highlight the need for global collaboration to understand and preserve the rich diversity of plants in tropical environments.
The guest speakers are researchers Eimear M. Nic Lughada (Kew), Vinicius Castro Souza (ESALQ/USP), Bruno Eleres Soares (University of Regina), Domingos Cardoso (JBRJ), Douglas C. Daly (New York Botanical Garden) and Gustavo Martinares (general coordinator of CNCFlora/JBRJ). Daly (New York Botanical Garden), Fabio Scarano (UFRJ), Fernando Valladares (Universidad Rey Juan Carlos), Gustavo Martinelli (general coordinator CNCFlora/JBRJ and Genetic Heritage Management Council), Leonardo Tavares Salgado (Director of Scientific Research at JBRJ), Paul Kersey (Kew), Angela Pierre Vitória (UENF), Claudia Franca Barros (JBRJ), Marinez Ferreira De Siqueira (director of ENBT/JBRJ), Raquel Negrão Baldoni (Kew), Sandra Knapp (Natural History Museum, London) and Marcio Verdi (CNCFlora/JBRJ), as well as researchers from the University of Regina (Canada), the Natural History Museum (UK), the State University of Norte Fluminense and the Spanish Council of Scientific Research (Spain).
