Rio's Botanical Garden has a program on the Atlantic Forest starting on the 25th
In the month of Atlantic Forest Day (May 27), the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will be promoting a week of activities to highlight the importance of preserving one of the world's most diverse and threatened biomes. Starting on the 25th, the public will be able to take part in guided trails to the Orchidarium, Cactarium and Herbarium, educational workshops and fun and cultural activities about the Atlantic Forest biome, as well as exhibitions.

- Treasure hunt on the Atlantic Forest trail
Time: 9.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. (Monday and Tuesday) and 2 p.m. (Wednesday)
Conducted by educators from the Environmental Education Service, the activity will be divided into two parts. The first consists of a dynamic session in the Didactic Laboratory, with the making of a mini-exsiccata with species representative of the Atlantic Forest. Exsiccates are samples of plants collected by researchers, pressed, dehydrated and registered, which are then deposited in herbaria for study.
The second stage will take place on the Atlantic Forest trail. This is a special route through the arboretum, where native and endangered species of the biome can be seen, as well as the wild animals that inhabit the area. Along the way, the children will take part in an adventure, searching for hidden "treasures".
May 28th (Tuesday)
- Guided tour of the herbarium, exhibition of exsiccates, carpoteca and xylotheque of iconic species of the Atlantic Forest.
Time: 10 a.m.
Location: herbarium
In the hall of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Herbarium, visitors will be able to see native specimens from the Atlantic Rainforest that make up its botanical collection.
