Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden organises Summer 2025 Orchid and Bromeliad Show
Orchids and bromeliads, two of the plant families most appreciated by collectors and plant lovers in Brazil, will have a joint show at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden for the first time. The Summer 2025 Orchid and Bromeliad Show will take place on 14, 15 and 16 February (Friday, Saturday and Sunday), from 8am to 5pm. Visitors will be able to admire the flowering plants, which will be on display in the Bromeliad's greenhouse, and take part in talks, courses, guided tours, a plant raffle and video screenings.
The curator of JBRJ's orchid collection, Delfina de Araujo, explains that there are orchid species blooming in every season of the year and summer is an opportunity to appreciate the beautiful blooms of native and exotic plants, as well as hybrids with their different shapes, colours and scents. Bromeliads, meanwhile, also offer a spectacle of varied shapes, sizes and colours, with some species that adapt well to the hottest season of the year.
In addition to the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden's collections, which are among the largest and most important in the country, the Orchid Castle (Roland Brooks Cooke) and Valverde nurseries are also taking part in the show. During the event, visitors will be able to buy orchids and bromeliads in various stages of growth, as well as the supplies needed to grow them and books, in the Orchid Show's sales area.
