Rio Botanical Garden promotes Coastal-Marine System Week from March 25 to 27
The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will have special activities for visitors on March 25, 26 and 27, when it celebrates Marine Coastal System Week. Through games, videos, exhibitions and guided tours with researchers, the public will be able to learn about the beauty and importance of the Brazilian Coastal-Marine System, as well as some of the research carried out on it by the JBRJ.
Three activities will be offered during the three days of the event, from Monday to Wednesday. At the Environmental Education Service, children and their families are invited to take part in games and modeling workshops about the oceans and coastal environments. The animated series "Marulhada" will also be shown and educational booklets will be distributed.
At the Barbosa Rodrigues Library, visitors will be able to learn more about the history, geography, biology, conservation, challenges and opportunities of the Marine Coastal System through books, articles, maps and other materials selected by the library team.
In the activity The plants of the coast represented at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, researchers Cyl Farney Catarino de Sá and Bruno Kurtz will accompany the public on a visit in which they will talk about topics related to restinga environments, such as the origin of sandy coastal plains, variation in the physiognomy of vegetation, extreme environmental characteristics, some plant adaptations, human occupation and conservation.
The Restinga will also be the subject of the activity Plantas e Histórias: Caminhando pelos Saberes e Sabores da Restinga at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, with researchers Viviane Stern da Fonseca Kruel and Cyl Farney Catarino de Sá, on the 26th and 27th (Tuesday and Wednesday), at 2 p.m., in the Restinga Garden. During the walk, visitors will be able to contemplate a diversity of plant species adapted to this coastal environment and talk to the experts about stories of traditional uses of plants, such as in food and medicine, among other aspects of local cultures. The aim is to connect people to nature and inspire them to take an active role in protecting, conserving and perpetuating this valuable natural and cultural heritage. This activity is associated with the project - "Food and medicinal plants of the restinga: paths of cultural transmission in the Cabo Frio Region, RJ", with support from the Faperj Call for Proposals (APQ1).
There is no need to register for the activities. In the event of rain, activities at the Arboretum will be canceled.
