Wildlife practices and studies in the urban context
The Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute and the Free Life Institute (IVL) are organizing the "First free life seminar: practices and studies of wildlife in the urban context" on Thursday ( November 30). The event will bring together professionals who work with wild animals, including clinics, rehabilitation, release, reintroduction, monitoring and combating environmental crimes.
The lectures and round tables will start at 9 am, at the Botanical Garden's Arts Shed, and will include the participation of biologist Marina Bordin, from the JBRJ's Fauna Preservation Center, the president of the IVL, Roched Seba, representatives from the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), the Federal Police's Office for the Repression of Crimes against the Environment, the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), among others.

9:30 a.m - Monitoring urban marine fauna in the Cagarras Islands Archipelago Natural Monument (Mona Cagarras) and its surroundings: 12 years of studies with cetaceans - Liliane Loide, coordinator of the cetacean monitoring program of the Ilhas do Rio Project/Instituto Mar Adentro.
10:30 a.m. - Wildlife management and rescue in urban environments - Marina Bordin, biologist at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden's Fauna Preservation Center
11:30 a.m. - Rehabilitation and release of wild animals and emergency support management for recently apprehended and rescued wild animals - Thiago Muniz, veterinarian at Instituto Vida Livre.
2:00 p.m - Round table: Challenges in combating wildlife trafficking
Moderator: Roched Seba (Instituto Vida Livre)
Panelists: Paula Mary, Federal Police delegate, head of the Federal Police's Office for the Repression of Crimes against the Environment, Taciana Sherlock, veterinarian and federal environmental agent at Ibama-RJ, and André Bordeaux, biologist, criminal expert at the Carlos Éboli Criminal Institute of the Rio de Janeiro State Civil Police.
3:30 p.m - Round table: Conservation, monitoring and reintroduction of urban wildlife
Moderator: Vanessa Onofre, biologist at Instituto Vida Livre
Debaters: Henrique Rajão, biologist from the Biology department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Marcelo Reinghst, biologist and executive director of the Refauna project, and Izar Aximoffar, biologist from the Urban Jaguars Project.
