Reflora wins the Public Spirit 2024 Award
Researcher Rafaela Campostrini Forzza, coordinator of the Reflora - Plantas do Brasil project, received the 6th edition of the Public Spirit Award - Environment and Climate Emergency Category on Wednesday, July 24.
The award's mission is to “recognize and honor the work of professionals who work with the purpose of positively transforming Brazilian public service”. The criteria for choosing the winning projects are social impact, technical contribution, potential for effectiveness and collaboration, initiative and integrity, and diversity and inclusion.
Reflora was created in 2010 by the CNPq, with the main objective of repatriating, by means of high-resolution digital images, exsiccates of specimens of Brazilian flora deposited in foreign herbaria, to be made available to the whole of society in the Reflora Virtual Herbarium, with the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ) as its headquarters. Since 2014, with the partnership of SiBBr (Brazilian Biodiversity Information System) and IFN (National Forest Inventory), it has been possible to include more herbaria from Europe, the USA and Brazil, making it possible for the country to meet Goal 1 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation for 2010 and 2020, under the Convention on Biological Diversity.
Meet the winners of this 6th edition of the Public Spirit Award.
