Winter orchids show their beauty in Rio's Botanical Garden
Bringing a touch of enchantment to the coldest season of the year, on July 19, 20 and 21, the Winter Orchid Show brings beautiful blooms to the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, with various species. The event takes place in the Orchidarium and will include lectures, courses, guided tours and a raffle for plants among the first 100 visitors in the morning.
"For each season of the year, there are orchid species blooming. Some seasons are more floriferous than others (autumn and spring), but there will always be orchids to be seen and admired in the other seasons," says Delfina de Araújo, curator of the JBRJ Orchid Collection, pointing out that some winter blooms tend to be longer than at other times of the year - "not to mention the hybrids with their different shapes, colors and scents," she says.
Colourful, captivating and beautiful, orchids have a great capacity for hybridization. Using this natural talent, human beings have managed to obtain even more attractive orchids. Many of these hybrids will be present at the show, which will also exhibit native and exotic species.
In addition to the plants that will be on display in the central area of the glass greenhouse, there will be a sale of flowering orchids in various stages of growth, the supplies needed to grow them and books. The show will also feature Orchid Castle (Roland Brooks Cooke) and Claudecy Orquídeas (Claudecy Vieira).
