Orquestra Sanfônica is the attraction of Sunday in the Garden
One of the musical expressions of Northeastern culture in the Southeast and a benchmark for accordion groups in the country, the Orquestra Sanfônica is the attraction of Domingo no Jardim. The performance takes place this Sunday (18 August), at 11 a.m., in front of the bust of Dom João.
Made up of young people, adults and the elderly, including women and men, the Orchestra brings together several accordions, accordion players, singers, a double bass player, rabequeiro, zabumbeiras and a percussionist. The repertoire includes songs by Jackson do Pandeiro, Luiz Gonzaga, Dominguinhos and Sivuca, among others, as well as original songs by members of the group.
The Sanfônica has already performed alongside Lucy Alves, Juliana Linhares and Marcelo Mimoso, celebrating the 80th anniversary of Dominguinhos' birth. In 2022, it was the highlight of the Fibra-Festival of Instrumental Music, in homage to Dominguinhos. Also that year, she won the Municipal Prize in Cena, in honor of Luiz Gonzaga's 110th birthday, at the Municipal Theater. In 2023, it was awarded the “Sanfônica nas Praças” Project.
The Orchestra was conceived by Marcelo Caldi, one of the exponents of the new Brazilian generation of musicians and one of those responsible for revitalizing the accordion on the contemporary scene, giving the bellows a new “accent”. Caldi is also the group's musical director and arranger. Another highlight of the Orchestra is conductor and teacher Norma Nogueira, who is responsible for the accordion nucleus of the Villa-Lobos School, where most of the members of the Sanfônica came from.
The presentation is free. Visitors only pay for entry to the arboretum. In the event of rain, it will be transferred to the Galpão das Artes.
