Monitora Program holds course at Flona Tapajós
The Tapajós National Forest, located in Belterra, Pará, hosted the forest protocol course of the Biodiversity Monitoring Program - Monitora, from June 10 to 22, covering the global targets of the forest component and the advanced plant protocol with an emphasis on parabotany. The course was taught by a team of professionals from the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden (JBRJ), the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG).
The first week had 30 students and was dedicated to presenting the Program and the basic protocol for the global targets (birds and mammals, frugivorous butterflies and plants) of the forest component. The advanced plant protocol course was attended by a total of 25 people, with an introduction to taxonomy, morphology of flowers, fruits, leaves and dendrology, collection and storage techniques.
The participants came from 12 conservation units (FLONA do Tapajós, FLONA de Mulata, RESEX Tapajós-Arapiuns, RESEX Chico Mendes, RESEX Verde Para Sempre, PARNA do Jaú, RESEX Renascer, REBIO Trombetas, RESEX do Rio Cajari, RESEX Arapixi, ESEC Jari, PARNA Serra do Divisor), ICMBio's Northern Regional Management - GR1, the Western Pará Regional Coordination, the Brazilian Forest Service and collaborators from the Biodiversity Monitoring Coordination (COMOB).
