Luther Jazz Orchestra concert on Sunday in the Garden
On its fourth tour of Brazil, the Luther Jazz Orchestra will perform at the Botanical Garden in Rio de Janeiro on June 2. Formed by students from Luther College (Iowa/USA), the group will present the audience with a repertoire that values the diversity and richness of the jazz tradition. Swing, bebop, cool, fusion, funk and Latin jazz will be present in the repertoire, in works by Duke Ellington, Tom Jobim, Luiz Bonfá, Wynton Marsalis, Astor Piazzolla, among others.
The instrumentalists are on an exchange trip to Brazil, which also includes a brief apprenticeship in dance, Brazilian rhythms and contact with local musicians and ensembles. Conducted by Tony Guzman, the Luther Jazz Orchestra will also perform concerts in Salvador and São Paulo.
The concert takes place in the space next to the bust of Dom João. The performance is free. Visitors only pay the entrance ticket to the arboretum.
