LiberTango brings Piazzola's work to Sunday in the Garden
The LiberTango group is the attraction of the Domingo no Jardim series this Sunday, April 7, at 11 a.m., in Rio de Janeiro's Botanical Garden. Formed by pianist Estela Caldi and two of her sons, Alexandre Caldi (saxophones and flutes) and Marcelo Caldi (accordion), the group has been keeping the legacy of Argentine Astor Piazzolla alive in Brazil for 28 years.
The highlights of the performance will be Piazzolla's hits, such as "Adiós, nonino", "Libertango" and "Años de soledad", as well as "9 de julho", by Ernesto Nazareth, and "Modinhas" by Villa-Lobos and Tom Jobim. Alexandre Caldi's tribute to his mother, the tango "Estrela", is also a highlight. The performance will feature the special participation of violinist Priscila Rato.
LiberTango has released five albums: "Quatro ventos" (Independent, 2017, with Soraya Ravenle), "Tangos hermanos" (Mills, 2014), "Porteño" (Delira, 2010), "Cierra tus ojos y escucha" (Delira, 2007) and "LiberTango - a música de Astor Piazzolla" (Delira, 2005). He was the highlight of the first Tango Brasil International Festival, at the CCBB-RJ, in 2013, as well as having been awarded several other Public Notices, such as Caixa Cultural (2016 and 2018), Furnas Cultural (2015), Quintas no BNDES (2018), and others.
Among the instrumentalists who have played with the group are Yamandu Costa, Hamilton de Holanda, Renato Borghetti and Nicolas Krassik, as well as singers Soraya Ravenle, Nina Wirtti and Grazie Wirtti.
