JBRJ and SBB promote lecture series “Amazonia in focus”
The “Amazon in Focus” lecture series will take place on October 21 and 22 at the National School of Tropical Botany (ENBT) at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden. Promoted in partnership with the Botanical Society of Brazil, Rio-São Paulo regional, the event is aimed at undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as the general public.
The lectures are free and no registration is required. Participants will receive certificates.
ENBT/JBRJ is located at Rua Pacheco Leão, 2040, Horto.

October 21st, Monday
- Theme: Amazonia, the ultimate challenge (canceled)
Speaker: Vinícius Castro Souza (Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture/University of São Paulo, Piracicaba campus), coordinator of the Brazilian team in the XPRIZE Rainforest world competition.

- Theme: Emblematic trees of the Amazon Rainforest in the arboretum of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden

October 22nd, Tuesday
- Theme: The role of Bryophytes as the “Canaries in the coal mine” for Amazonian plants
Speaker: Charles Zartman, coordinator of the Graduate Program in Botany (PPGBOT) at the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA)
Time: 2:30 p.m.
- Theme: Dialogues of knowledge: the Juruna parataxonomist and the construction of knowledge about biodiversity in Amazonia
Speakers: Ocírio de Souza Pereira (Juruna), parataxonomist, and Domingos Cardoso, JBRJ researcher
