Families of the Arboretum series gets a new edition and three new volumes
The Families of the Arboretum series, made up of books on the plant families cultivated in the Arboretum of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, has gained its second edition, with the addition of books on the Costaceae, Heliconiaceae and Zingiberaceae families. They join the volumes dedicated to the Bignoniaceae, Convolvulaceae, Malpighiaceae, Malvaceae and Melastomataceae.
In this second edition, the volumes include photographs and data on each species, such as popular name, scientific name, distribution in Brazil and worldwide, flowering and fruiting data and information on uses and conservation, as well as their location in the Arboretum. Among the curious information, the reader discovers, for example, that the imposing emperor's staff (Etlingera elatior (Jack) R.M.Sm.) belongs to the ginger family.
The series is coordinated by researcher Marcus Nadruz Coelho, coordinator of the JBRJ's Living Collection, and has graphic design by Mary Paz Guillén.
