The attraction of Fridays in March is the Endangered Species Trail. Organized and presented by the Botanical Garden's Environmental Education Service with information provided by the National Center for the Conservation of Flora (CNCFlora), this trail shows, in the Botanical Garden's arboretum, Brazilian plant species that are in danger of disappearing, and therefore are the target of conservation actions.
Among the 17 species highlighted in the trail are, for example, the pink cedar (Cedrela odorata), the jacarandá-caviúna (Dalbergia nigra) and the pink jequitibá (Cariniana legalis), much exploited for their wood; and also the Brazil nut (Bertholletia excelsa) and the palmito-juçara (Euterpe edulis), the species in the photo.
The outings begin next Friday, March 3, always at 10am. Meeting point: Visitors Center. It is not necessary to book in advance.
The trail is free, but there is an entrance fee to the arboretum. Buy your ticket at jbrj.eleventickets.com
The Visitor Center is located at Rua Jardim Botânico, 1008.
