CNCFlora is elevated to the board of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden
The National Center for Flora Conservation (CNCFlora), which in 2024 will celebrate 15 years since its creation, has now become a directorate of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ).
The new organizational structure was approved by the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, through Decree No. 12,137, of August 12, 2024, and published in the Federal Official Gazette on August 13.
With this change, CNCFlora expands its responsibilities to include planning, promoting, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating the execution of conservation activities for species of Brazilian flora and fungi. In addition to plants, fungi will now also be included in public policy instruments, such as assessing the risk of extinction, updating red lists, developing action plans and identifying priority areas for conservation.
