Researcher Rafaela Campostrini Forzza, from the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro, participated in the expedition led by Miguel Trefaut Rodrigues, from the University of São Paulo (USP) to the Serra do Imeri, where he collected Brocchinia hechtiodes, a species of bromeliad of which only two collections were known in the country.
Rafaela and fellow botanist Lúcia Lohmann (USP) collected 1200 samples of 200 plant species during the expedition, which took place between November 4 and 20, 2022 and included 14 researchers from various areas and institutions, in addition to the support of the Brazilian Army. With its apex reaching 2400 meters of altitude, the Serra do Imeri, in the north of Amazonas, was a region unexplored by scientists - and perhaps by any human being, until then.
