Botanical Garden Museum promotes special program to celebrate Children's Day
Mediated visits, educational games and art and science workshops are among the free activities that will take place over the weekend (October 12 and 13).
A success during the July vacations, the children's program “From Flower to Flower”, promoted by the Botanical Garden Museum, is back on October 12 and 13. To celebrate Children's Day, the MJB has prepared a series of free activities for children of different age groups and their families to enjoy over the weekend.
Mediated visits, educational games and art and science workshops designed to bring children closer to botanical themes are among the activities that will take place in the museum's gardens and exhibition spaces on Saturday and Sunday. Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to the activities, the public can also take the opportunity to visit the Botanical Garden Museum's exhibitions and installations, including the work “Sumaúma: Copa, Casa, Cosmos”, by Estevão Ciavatta with narration by Regina Casé, which promotes an immersive experience in the kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra), an Amazonian tree present in the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden's living collection and loaded with symbolism. One of them is present in indigenous myths in which the tree connects heaven and earth.
Another highlight is the temporary exhibition “Mbae Kaá, o que tem na mata: Barbosa Rodrigues between plants and shamans”. Based on the book of the same name by Barbosa Rodrigues, the show displays some of the watercolors that the botanist and naturalist produced during his expeditions to the Amazon between 1886 and 1887. The works are displayed alongside contemporary works created by Guarani artists. The exhibition is curated by Ciclo Selvagem, a sphere of learning and practice - led by Anna Dantes and under the guidance of Ailton Krenak - which brings together indigenous, traditional, scientific, academic, artistic and other kinds of memories and knowledge.
