Biodiversity Forum welcomes Bráulio Dias, director of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity at the MMA
Next Tuesday, August 13, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden is holding the 4th edition of its "Biodiversity Forum" at the Botanical Garden Museum. This month, the meeting welcomes Bráulio Dias, director of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity at the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. He will talk about the new National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan - EPANB. In his talk to the public, the guest will also discuss Brazil's participation in COP16, the ONU convention on biological diversity, which is taking place in the city of Cali, Colombia, between October 21 and November 1.
The talk, aimed at specialists, researchers, students and anyone else interested, will take place at 2 p.m. in the museum's Multipurpose Room. Admission is free. There are 50 seats, on a first-come, first-served basis. The forum will also be broadcast live on JBRJ's YouTube channel.
Bráulio Ferreira de Souza Dias has a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasília (1975) and a PhD in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh (1981). He has been a professor at UnB since 1982. He has carried out research into the biodiversity and ecology of the Cerrado Biome and works at the interface between science and public policies for biodiversity conservation. He was Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity for five years from 2012. He has held various positions in the Ministry of the Environment, having been Director of Research at IBAMA, Director of Biodiversity Conservation and National Secretary for Biodiversity and Forests and currently holds the position of Director of Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity at the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change. In 2018, he received the National Biodiversity Award from the MMA.
Conceived by a curatorial board made up of JBRJ experts, the "Biodiversity Forum" is held monthly at the Botanical Garden Museum and each edition features the participation of an expert to present reflections, research results and studies from publications on biodiversity conservation, always with the aim of broadening the debate and spreading knowledge about climate emergencies and other related issues.
