Biodiversity Forum celebrates Biologist's Day with lecture by Rita de Cássia Mesquita, MMA's Biodiversity Secretary
The fifth edition of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden's Biodiversity Forum will take place next Tuesday, September 3, the date on which Biologist's Day is celebrated. The guest is Rita de Cássia Mesquita, National Secretary for Biodiversity, Forests and Animal Rights at the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, who will discuss the topic “Biodiversity and the business of nature”.
The activity, aimed at specialists, researchers, students and other interested parties, will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room of the Botanical Garden Museum. Admission is free. There are 50 seats, on a first-come, first-served basis. The forum will also be broadcast live on JBRJ's YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/jardimbotanicodoriodejaneiro). A certificate of participation will be issued to both the in-person and online audience.
Rita de Cássia Mesquita has a degree in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (1985), a master's degree in Biology (Ecology) from the National Institute for Amazon Research (1989) and a PhD in Ecosystem Ecology from the Institute of Ecology - University of Georgia (1995). She is a researcher at the National Institute for Amazonian Research and a career civil servant at the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. She has experience in Ecology, with an emphasis on Degraded Area Management, working mainly with secondary vegetation dynamics, rural and urban forest fragmentation, forest regeneration and agroforestry, biodiversity conservation and environmental management.
Conceived by a curatorial board made up of JBRJ specialists, the Biodiversity Forum is held monthly at the Botanical Garden Museum, and each edition features the participation of a specialist to present reflections, research results and studies from publications on biodiversity conservation, always with the aim of broadening the debate and spreading knowledge about climate emergencies and other related issues.
