Baroque music on Sunday in the Garden
Sunday in the Garden brings baroque music to the arboretum of Rio de Janeiro's Botanical Garden. This Sunday ( June 30), the multi-instrumentalist and composer Carlos Gadelha, on viola da gamba and baroque lute, and Roger Ribeiro, on violin, will treat the public to a commented recital, which takes in works by French composers of the period, such as Michel Pignolet de Montéclair and François Couperin.
Carlos Gadelha graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in England, where he completed a Bachelor of Music Performance degree. One of the instruments he will play, the viola da gamba was widely used during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In Italian, gamba means leg, and the instrument is held between the legs in order to be played. Roger Ribeiro is a baroque violinist and also performs as a chamber musician, recitalist and soloist.
The recital takes place in front of the bust of Dom João, in the arboretum, at 11 a.m. The performance is free of charge. Visitors only pay the entrance fee to the arboretum. In the event of rain, the performance will be moved to the Galpão das Artes.
