Article describes nine new species of the Piperaceae family

The researcher George Azevedo de Queiroz published the article Nine new species of Piper sect. Isophyllon Miq. (Piperaceae) from Brazil, which describes nine new species of the Piperaceae family. The author, a former student of Dr. Elsie Franklin Guimarães and Dr. Cássia Sakuragui (Ph.D. at the Museu Nacional), also pays homage to former and current researchers from the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro.
Piper section Isophyllon Miq. comprises about 120 species with a Neotropical distribution and greatest diversity occurring in Central America and the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Based on the analysis of the largest Brazilian herbarium (RB), nine new species of Piper section Isophyllon are described: P. arianeae G.A. Queiroz, Sarnaglia & E. F. Guim.; P. forzzae G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim.; P. jaramilloae G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim.; P. marquetii G.A. Queiroz, E. F. Guim. & Sarnaglia; P. martinellii G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim.; P. michelineae G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim.; P. moreiranum G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim.; P. rizzinii G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim.; and P. sucreanum G.A. Queiroz & E. F. Guim. Besides the taxonomic description, illustrations, maps, comments and an identification key for the Brazilian species of this group are provided.
