Environmental Education
"Environmental education is understood as the processes by which the individual and the collectivity build social values, knowledge, skills, attitudes, and competencies aimed at the conservation of the environment, an asset of common use of the people, essential to a healthy quality of life and its sustainability." "Program designed to ensure, in the educational sphere, the balanced integration of the multiple dimensions of sustainability - environmental, social, ethical, cultural, economic, spatial, and political - to the development of the country, resulting in better quality of life for the entire Brazilian population, through the involvement and social participation in environmental protection and conservation and the maintenance of these conditions in the long term." The Environmental Education Service of the Botanical Garden Research Institute of Rio de Janeiro, created in July 1992, operates at the Environmental Museum. It has a multidisciplinary team and its objective is to form critical individuals based on the conservation of biodiversity and socio-environmental sustainability, aiming at the transformation towards a fairer and more sustainable society. Its actions are organized in the following lines: Scientific Dissemination, Training in Environmental Education, Education for Environmental Management, Extension and Research in Environmental Education.
