Distance Learning Courses
INPI’s Academy offers a series of distance learning courses, intending to reach the largest possible number of people, and always in favor of the dissemination of the culture of intellectual property protection, in view of the importance of appropriating the results of technological innovation for economic development and competitiveness gains.
Between basic and advanced courses, modules delivered remotely and currently offered consist of the following portfolio:
Basic Course
DL 101P-BR: General Intellectual Property Course delivered remotely, in a partnership with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) (Course Syllabus)
Objective: To make it feasible for the general public to learn several topics related to intellectual property, such as Copyrights, Patents, Trademarks, Geographical Indications, Industrial Designs, Protection of New Vegetable/Cultivated Varieties, Unfair Competition, Technological Information, Technology Agreements and International Treaties.
Prerequisite: none
Class hours: 75 hours

Advanced Courses
Objective: This advanced course is intended to explain basic principles related to patents, as well as the economic impact of patents, patenting, transfer of technology, patent pools, and the traditional use of patents by research centers and universities. The course also addresses important aspects of the use of patent documents for the enforcement of patent rights, and other aspects of enforcement of proprietary rights.
Prerequisite: none
Class hours: 150 hours
Enrollment fee: USD40 (for students) or USD60 (for professionals). Scholarships for employees of Governmental Institutions (subject to availability of vacancies and letter of appointment of the top manager of the institution).

DL 302P-BR: Advanced Course on Trademarks, Industrial Designs and Geographical Indications delivered remotely, in a partnership with WIPO (Course Syllabus)
Objective: This advanced course is intended to provide online material on aspects of IP strictly related to trade and competition in a globalized market. The course is also intended to promote awareness and qualification in some of the complex aspects surrounding IP protection and management for branding purposes.

DL 320P-BR: Advanced Course on the Basics of Patent Drafting delivered remotely, in a partnership with WIPO (Course Syllabus)
Objective: This advanced course aims at introducing participants to the basic concepts of patent drafting, emphasizing search strategies and the basic structure of the patent application. The course also features case studies and practical examples of how to draft claims.

DL 318P-BR: Advanced Course on Patent Information Search delivered remotely, in a partnership with WIPO (Course Syllabus)
Objective: The objective of this course is to deepen, exemplify, and practice the concepts of searching for patent information. The training consists of practical activities that complement theoretical principles of the search for technological information. Databases, techniques, and tools used during the Patent Search are also presented.
