Ethics
There must be ethics committees in all bodies and entities related to the Federal Public Administration, pursuant to Decree No. 1,171 of June 22, 1994, and their purpose is to ensure the application of the Code of Professional Ethics of Civil Servants, investigating, upon report or ex-officio, conducts contrary to the ethical standards established, recommending, monitoring, and assessing the development of actions aiming at dissemination, capacity-building, and training about ethical standards and behavior.
INPI’s Ethics Committee, whose members have been designated by INPI/PR Ordinance No. 132/2018, in addition to the abovementioned purposes, is also in charge of giving guidance and advice about the civil servant’s professional ethics, with respect to how to treat people and public assets and properties.
Forming part of the Ethics Management System of the Federal Executive Branch and linked to the Public Ethics Committee of the Presidency of the Republic, the Committee has full autonomy from the heads of the Institution.
The Ethics Committee is composed of three effective members and three alternates, designated for three-year mandates, nonsimultaneous, elected out of the civil servants of INPI’s permanent staff, pursuant to the general trustworthy reputation and reputability criteria.
