WIPO and INPI discuss the intellectual property and innovation system
The director-general of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Daren Tang, was in Brazil in March to get to know the national IP and innovation system, participate in meetings with entities in the area and formalize partnerships, with INPI’s participation in the activities.
On March 18, the director-general was at INPI and participated in a meeting in which the Institute’s strategic actions and projects, such as INPI for Business and Digital IP, were presented. It was the first visit of a WIPO director-general to the Institute.
Meetings and agreement
In the meetings held at the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) and at the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP), some of the themes addressed were intellectual property as an incentive to economic growth, the importance of its funding and dissemination in society, and the dynamism of Brazilian startups and small companies. In turn, the meeting at Sebrae addressed the geographical indications in the Country and the National Strategy for Intellectual Property (ENPI).
As part of the agenda in Brazil, a memorandum of understanding between the Interministerial Working Group on Intellectual Property (GIPI) and WIPO was also signed on March 17 in Brasilia, with the aim of deepening bilateral cooperation between the Organization and the competent Brazilian agencies in the IP area.
