INPI releases a study on patents in the area of sanitation
INPI publishes another edition of the Technological Radar series, this time with the theme “Sanitation: an overview of patent applications for water supply and sewage treatment”, prepared by researchers from the Directorate of Patents and INPI's Academy.
The main objective of the study is to present the patenting scenario of technologies related to water supply, sanitary sewer and water and sewage treatment infrastructure. The paper highlights the main technologies and their origin, the main applicants and the legal status of these patent applications.
The study also seeks to identify the Brazilian states of the applicants residing in the Country related to sanitation technologies, in order to identify possible innovation clusters.
In its conclusions, the study indicates that patent applications related to water supply and sanitary sewer infrastructure were filed mostly by individuals, residing mainly in the Southern and Southeastern states of Brazil.
It is also worth noting that non-resident companies and national universities are the main applicants for patent applications describing water and sewage treatment technologies. In addition, most of the applications are related to purification systems and sewage system structures.
