Brazil ranks 57th among the 132 most innovative countries
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) released, on September 20, the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2021, which ranks Brazil at the 57th position among the 132 participating countries. The country ranked 62nd in 2020 and 66th in 2019. In the context of 18 economies in Latin America and the Caribbean, Brazil ranked fourth, behind Chile (1st), Mexico (2nd) and Costa Rica (3rd).

The GII ranks the global economies according to their innovation capacities, based on 80 indicators grouped into innovation inputs and outputs. In 2021, the top ten innovative countries were: Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Finland, Singapore, Denmark and Germany.
