The INPE Library is considered an iconic center of excellence among the country's libraries due to its pioneering spirit, specialized collection, and services provided to the technical-scientific community.
The Library's collection has grown significantly since its founding in 1965, starting with only 100 works and now comprising approximately 230,000 items, including printed publications, newspaper fascicles, and e-books. For over 50 years, the Library has been dedicated to expanding and optimizing access to information.

The Library is known for its pioneering work in automating collections and disseminating information through seminars such as the Seminars on Automation in Libraries and Documentation Centers (SEABs) held in the 1980s and 1990s. These events (link to the Events section) contributed to the formation of a stronger and more respected profession of librarians, who recognized themselves as decisive actors in the information sector.

Over its nearly 60-year history, the Library has been expanding and optimizing access to specialized information in various areas of INPE's activities. Throughout this time, several products and services have been developed to serve the user community.
The Technical-Scientific Memory, which includes all of the INPE's production, has been a concern for preservation since the 1960s. In 1995, the INPE's Digital Library of Scientific Memory was created as an Open Access Institutional Repository.
The INPE Digital Library currently supports the institution's mission to disseminate the knowledge produced by its research and development activities. Additionally, it encourages researchers and students to deposit their work in an institutional repository, which promotes open access and long-term preservation. This contributes to increasing the visibility and impact of the work, as well as the dissemination of the scientific and technological memory of the Institute.
The Library has been dedicated to promoting and providing access to technical-scientific information in INPE's areas of activity.
