IEN's researcher lectures the Radiopharmacy Module on Multiprofessional Residency in Sanitary Surveillance.
The coordinator of Nano-radiopharmacy Laboratory of IEN/CNEN, Ralph Santos-Oliveira, has taught the Radiopharmacy Module on Multiprofessional Residency in Sanitary Surveillance of the Municipal Health Administration of Rio de Janeiro. This residency course is also offered by IVISA-Rio (Institute of Sanitary Surveillance, Zoonoses Surveillance and Agriculture Inspection-Rio) whose target audience is nurses, pharmacists and nutritionists.
The Radiopharmacy Module was organized by Santos-Oliveira, which took place in his laboratory, on February 9th, over the whole day. It focusses on an approach to the main concepts of industrial, hospital and centralized radiopharmacy, notions of the radioprotection and interaction of radiation with the biological material. In addition, there has been a demonstration of radiolabeling and quality control processes.
Asked about the importance of this content for the target audience of the residency in reference, Santos-Oliveira declared: “The radiopharmacy is an area of the pharmaceutical sciences that has been experiencing the greatest market expansion in Brazil in recent years. The systematization of content, especially in the training of new inspectors, allows the right and focused inspection in alignment with the peculiarities of the nuclear sector. The opportunity of offering this module, together with the first specialization course in health surveillance (multiprofessional residency modality), contributes significantly for new inspectors to develop a right and real understanding about this field, improving the entire production chain.”
