The Brazilian Journal of Occupational Health (RBSO) announces a call for papers to compose the Thematic Dossier "Sustainable Development and Workers’ Health." This initiative aims to promote scientific research, academic discussion, and the dissemination of studies on the complex relationships between work, health, and the environment, with a focus on the fundamental role they play in sustainable development.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) constitute an ambitious global agenda aimed at addressing the most pressing global challenges by 2030. They include 17 goals agreed upon by member countries of the United Nations (UN), aiming to promote economic prosperity, social justice, and environmental sustainability. In the context of occupational health, achieving the SDGs poses significant challenges. Ensuring safe and healthy workplaces in accordance with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) is crucial. Also important are the promotion of workers’ health, including mental health (in line with SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being), sustainable management of resources in the workplace (SDG 12 – Responsible Consumption and Production), as well as addressing rural work, contributions, and impacts of conventional agriculture and livestock on climate change and their relationship with occupational health, and possibilities for mitigation (in line with SDG 2 – Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture). Additionally, reducing gender inequalities and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women, including in the workplace (SDG 5 – Gender Equality), is crucial. Estimating the impacts on health, raising awareness and capacity for mitigation and adaptation, as well as alerting to and reducing climate change-related risks in the workplace are also essential (SDG 13 - Climate Action).
Given climate change and significant shifts in the world of work, coupled with rapid technological, economic, and social transformations, the promotion of worker’s health must be reconsidered, constituting an imperative to ensure a more sustainable future. Faced with these challenges, studies on the relationships between health, work, and the environment, from an interdisciplinary perspective, play a crucial role.
Therefore, researchers, academics, and professionals in the field of occupational health and safety are encouraged to submit articles within the scope of the Thematic Dossier "Sustainable Development and Occupational Health."
Topics of interest:
Topics/themes of interest include but are not limited to:
• Relationships between occupational health and safety and the achievement of SDGs.
• Impact of changes in the world of work on the sustainable development goals.
• Inequalities in workers’ health relevant to SDGs.

• Studies contributing to monitoring SDG targets related to workers’ health.
• Gender inequalities, work, and health.
