Launch of the commemorative edition of “A gramatiquinha da fala brasileira”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Guimarães Rosa Institute, and the Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation have published a commemorative edition of A gramatiquinha da fala brasileira [The little grammar of Brazilian speech], by Mário de Andrade. Little known by the wider public and never published during the modernist author’s lifetime, the work is a complete and authentic study of the variant of the Portuguese language spoken in Brazil, encompassing linguistic, psychological, and poetic aspects.
This edition, organized by professor Aline Novais de Almeida, is based on the manuscript of A gramatiquinha da fala brasileira, found in the series Manuscritos Mário de Andrade [Mário de Andrade Manuscripts], in the writer’s collection at the Brazilian Studies Institute of the University of São Paulo. This edition is complemented by facsimile manuscripts, newspaper clippings, notations and other elements.
The publication is part of the “Brazil 200 years – 1822-2022” collection, and is available, in Portuguese, for free download from FUNAG’s digital library.
