FUNAG publishes book on the 20 years of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda of the UNSC
The Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation has published the book Terá a paz rosto de mulher? Uma perspectiva brasileira para os 20 anos da agenda de mulheres paz e segurança do Conselho de Segurança das Nações Unidas [The womanly face of peace? A Brazilian Perspective for the 20 th anniversary of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda of the United Nations Security Council], by the diplomat Viviane Rios Balbino.
The work was originally presented before the Higher Studies Course of the Rio Branco Institute in 2020, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of UNSC Resolution 1325, entitled "Women, Peace and Security" - the first of the agenda under the same name that is now comprised of 11 different resolutions. At the same time, Brazil was preparing for its 11th non-permanent term in that UN body, in 2022-2023, still with no acquis of substantial engagement with the theme. In that context, the author presents the implementation of the agenda in the routine of the UN peace and security architecture. She also recalls the historic demands of women's movements for participation in decisions related to armed conflict.
The book is available in Portuguese for free download from FUNAG’s digital library .
