FUNAG launches biographical book about Father Antônio Vieira
The Alexandre de Gusmão Foundation has just published Quási apagadas cinzas...: as muitas vidas do Padre Antônio Vieira, bisavô da diplomacia brasileira [Quási apagadas cinzas...: The Many Lives of Father Antônio Vieira, Great-Grandfather of Brazilian Diplomacy], written by Ambassador Fernando Guimarães Reis.
In the book, the author seeks to establish a connection between Vieira’s text and his biography. “Vieira was not only a priest, but a multifaceted man, playing roles as an orator, politician, diplomat, missionary, and explorer of the Brazilian hinterland and the Amazon rainforest. His sermons, filled with personal confessions, reveal his enigmatic and introspective side.”
The book is available for free download on FUNAG’s digital library. The printed version can be purchased in the official online store.
